Strategic Course Selection

A strategic approach to course selection is crucial for a balanced high school schedule. Your high school's course catalog is a valuable tool, listing available courses and graduation requirements. Core classes like math, science, social studies, and English are essential and offered at various levels, including standard, honors, dual enrollment, and Advanced Placement (AP). Colleges look for students who challenge themselves academically. Consider AP or dual enrollment courses, which can also earn you college credit, potentially saving time and money.

Extracurricular Engagement and Time Management

Extracurricular activities can make you a more desirable candidate for colleges and employers.  They can also enhance your high school experience but require effective time management. Evaluate how many activities you can realistically participate in without negatively impacting your academic performance or well-being.

Preventing Academic and Personal Burnout

Burnout is a common challenge in high school, especially during college preparation. Managing your energy is crucial for preventing burnout. This involves understanding your energy levels, including physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects. Prioritize sleep, eat nutritious food, and stay hydrated. Incorporate physical activity and practice stress-reducing techniques. Talk to a trusted adult if you feel overwhelmed.

Holistic Approach to High School Success

High school success is about more than just grades. It's a time for personal growth, self-discovery, and developing essential life skills. Embrace a holistic approach that encompasses your academic, extracurricular, and personal well-being. Define your priorities, communicate with your support network, and be kind to yourself. Celebrate your accomplishments and remember to enjoy the journey!
